Third time’s a charm, right? The moment we walked onboard the Valiant Lady, I knew it was going to be another epic sailing. I was ready to enjoy a meal in Pink Agave, and I was determined to win the drinking game in Gunbae. I was most excited about lying on the daybeds, enjoying the ocean views, and sipping on a glass of Sangria.
It had been two years since my husband and I had sailed on a back-to-back sailing on Scarlet Lady. We had such a great experience, that we wanted to do it again. Valiant Lady, sister to Scarlet, looked the same with subtle differences. It proved to be another epic experience. 2025 itineraries were just announced with new destinations like Iceland, Ireland, and more of Europe.
Being experienced Virgin Voyages sailors, we wanted to share some of our tips for having a great experience. Besides booking your trip with us, here are some things you should know.
There are so many reasons why this is important. First and foremost, you can get some great deals. You’ll have more time to pay for your cruise. But the most important reason is you’ll be able to get your preferred dinner reservations. Dining on board a Virgin cruise ship means you’ll dine in one of the ship’s many restaurants. Forget the main dining room or buffets found on other ships. Dining is a premium experience with award-winning cuisine. And it’s all included. Dinner reservations fill up quickly, usually becoming available around 45 days before the cruise. If you have a Rockstar Suite, you get a head start at 60 days. So, book your cruise before that date to get the best dinner times.
Most sailors head to the Galley for breakfast. Skip the Galley and reserve a table in Razzle Dazzle or the Wake for brunch. Worth it. TIP: Make a reservation for the day you disembark the ship. No better way to head home than with a full belly.
Razzle Dazzle has a secret menu. It’s one of my favorite restaurants with some great dishes. A lot of cruisers think of Razzle Dazzle as being a mostly vegan/vegetarian restaurant. And it is. But there are some great dishes for the non-vegans in your group. Be sure to ask about the secret menu. There’s always a meat dish on the secret menu.
If your favorite shore excursion is sold out before you get onboard, don’t worry. More spaces open up once you get on the ship. But don’t wait. Head over to the Shore Excursions desk and snag your favorites before they sell out again.
There’s a fantastic area on the back of the lady ships with huge daybeds, a bar, and fantastic small bites. You’ll have clear views of the sea from there. It’s the perfect place for a chill day with a good book or great conversation and cocktails with friends. I typically hang out all day. It’s the best all-day spot on the ship. If that’s your goal, make your way back there by 9 or 9:30 a.m. Try the fresh juice. It’s a great way to start the day.
About noon, you can order food from the light bites menu. Another option to have food delivered directly to your daybed is to use the Ship Eats delivery service on the app. I highly recommend trying the Sangria from the Dock House Bar. And if you prefer champagne, open the Virgin Voyages app, and simply shake your phone. The Virgin Voyages Champagne button is revealed and, with just one press, a bottle of Möet Chandon Impérial® will be delivered to you.
book shows early
They fill up just as fast as restaurant reservations and shore excursions. My tip? Book them as soon as possible. Now, if your top entertainment pick is all booked up, don’t lose hope. Keep checking because cancellations happen, and you could grab a spot. Plus, there’s always new things popping up.
Make up my room
There’s an elusive button to push that turns on the do not disturb sign outside your door or signals your room steward to make your room. In a Sea Terrace room, it’s in the closet area on the wall closest to the door.
Virgin Voyages turns movie night into an epic experience. You can order popcorn and movie snacks on the Virgin Voyages app under Ship Eats delivery at no additional cost. For our movie night, I turned our room pink with the Get It On lighting setting, put on my fuchsia shirt, and turned on Barbie® the movie. Epic high-five to the hubby for enduring that night.
Make sure to bring something in a vibrant shade of scarlet for the Scarlet Night celebration on the ship. It’s the night the ship turns red, and everyone wears something scarlet-colored. There are performances all over the ship. Some are secret, and you’ll only get invited if you’re in the right place at the right time. The parties continue all night long.
The sail away party is where you’ll want to be the day you embark and head out to sea. You will have the chance to meet the incredible Happenings crew who make your sailing experience truly epic. It’s an all-out party on the deck with free champagne. If you’re leaving port from Miami, the ship does an epic 180-degree turn before heading out to sea. Enjoy complimentary champagne and the Miami skyline rotating around you as the party is rocking.
Instead of waiting in line for assistance, you can use the Virgin Voyages app to contact Sailor Services. It’s pretty quick and easy to get assistance without the wait.
Get a little seasick?
If you haven’t quite gotten your sea legs, Dramamine is available from the Sailor Services crew. The seas were a little rough on our last cruise. I completely forgot to pack some. Talk about a grateful Sailor!
There isn’t one. You don’t have to dress up. Unless you want to, of course. It’s perfectly acceptable to show up at any restaurant in shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers if that’s what you want. Or a ballgown or tuxedo. Your choice.
