Only the most seasoned travelers and adventurers know they can go as far as Antarctica and even fewer actually do so.
I had the exceptional opportunity to travel to this incredible continent with Seabourn. This award-winning company provides both luxury and authenticity regarding these types of experiences. Every day was extraordinary, unique, and increasingly impressive than the previous.
Many of my friends and colleagues saw my photos or social media posts and would ask what it was like and what to expect.
What I loved most was that I could trust the expertise of the expedition guides who lived and worked onboard. A team of professionals did all the forecasting, planning, and logistics so that I could seamlessly enjoy the adventure day by day.

I was astounded by their incredible knowledge and passion. I loved that they hosted us onboard, joined us for dinner, shared their stories, and answered our questions at every turn.
I arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which was a first for me. I explored the city for a few days during its summer heatwave before flying on a private charter flight south to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in South America.
The stunning, brand-new Seabourn Venture awaited there, and we boarded to sail the Drake Passage, finding land and icebergs after just one day of sailing.
Every night, the expedition team briefed us on the next day’s adventures, including where we would be, what we could do, and what we would likely see.
Each day consisted of multiple landings. The ship arrived at a selected area, and we explored it by small Zodiac, landing on a beach or rocky shoreline for a walk.
My favorite experience of the trip was near the end of the voyage. I started the day on a kayaking excursion. There was a small group of only eight double-sea kayaks and two guides.
We first journeyed by zodiac to our desired location away from the ship. Then, we transferred into the kayaks to start gliding at sea level. With no actual route set in stone, you never know what you’ll find.
Well, from sea ice to birds to fur seals, we were off to a great start when one of the expert guides could hear the breath of a humpback whale sleeping right on the surface, right in the middle of the waterway. So, we quietly kayaked towards it, coming within a safe but incredibly close distance to witness this majestic creature.
After about two hours of exploring, we set course back to the ship where the rest of the guests onboard were gearing up for the epic Polar Plunge, the “right of passage” opportunity to jump off the ship into the icy cold Antarctic Ocean water.

I was eager, excited, and quite nervous, as I couldn’t imagine what this plunge would feel like! But I was comforted knowing I had a warm robe, fuzzy slippers, and a beautiful sauna waiting for me to warm back up. Now, that’s luxury.
Traveling by expedition is an honor and a privilege. It is a privilege to travel in small groups with like-minded individuals who have a passion for learning about the world around us.
It left me wanting to ask myself and everyone else which expedition we would do next.
